{{Zambia government Tuesday reacted angrily to reports Interpol has cancelled a request for the arrest of the son of former president Rupiah Banda.}}<\/p>\n
Mr Henry Banda is wanted over allegations of corruption regarding the sale of the state-run telecommunications company Zamtel to LAP Green of Libya in 2010.<\/p>\n
Zambia President Michael Sata’s administration later reversed the $257-million deal upon ascending to power in 2011.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter whether or not Mr Henry Banda has been removed from the red alert notice of Interpol,\u201d Zambia Justice minister Wynter Kabimba told journalists late Tuesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe still consider Mr Banda as a suspect here and we will pursue every individual that participated in sabotaging our economy. And we cannot relent on the fight against corruption and it\u2019s not personal.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Kabimba could not however state why his government still insisted on wanting Henry to answer to the allegations.<\/p>\n
Interpol has removed Henry from its red alert notice citing lack of evidence.<\/p>\n
Henry is domiciled in South Africa since his father lost power to President Sata in 2011.<\/p>\n
The Zambian Government has dragged many members of the former government, including former president Banda, to court for various graft offences in what critics say is persecution of political opponents.<\/p>\n
