{"id":7265,"date":"2013-04-19T05:36:31","date_gmt":"2013-04-19T05:36:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/former-us-embassy-staff-killed-in-genocide\/"},"modified":"2013-04-23T08:42:30","modified_gmt":"2013-04-23T08:42:30","slug":"former-us-embassy-staff-killed-in-genocide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/former-us-embassy-staff-killed-in-genocide\/","title":{"rendered":"Former US Embassy Staff Killed in Genocide Honoured"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{{The US Embassy in Kigali has honoured 25 former employees at the embassy that were killed during the 1994 genocide against ethnic Tutsi\u2019s.}}<\/p>\n<p>The event was held April 18 at the Embassy attended by hundreds of people including Embassy staff, Government officials, and family members of the victims and Orphans of the deceased Employees.<\/p>\n<p>The Chairman of LES Committee at the US Embassy, Joseph Rurangwa said the Embassy is committed to supporting families of the victims as well as orphans to former Employees of the Embassy.<\/p>\n<p>Rurangwa said currently the US Embassy is supporting orphans including; those who have completed or continuing secondary schools, 2nd Category is made of University students who are still pursuing courses, the 3rd category includes graduates and living Abroad and the 4th fourth category is made of orphans that graduated and are working in Rwanda.<\/p>\n<p>Currently there is a fund in charge of supporting those orphans and some of them have started to contribute to the fund after completing their studies.<\/p>\n<p>During the commemoration event, the President of the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide John Rutayisire commended the US Embassy for the commemoration event.<\/p>\n<p>He urged Genocide survivors to work hard to fight for self reliance through being creative. <\/p>\n<p>He also urged Rwandans to gain courage and keep fighting against Genocide ideology as well as drawing lessons from the Genocide \u201cwe say never again to Genocide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe remember to give value to the victims, but survivors you are not alone, we are with you\u201d Rutayisire added.<\/p>\n<p>The Charge d\u2019Affaires at the US Embassy in Kigali, Jessica Lapen said that USA will always honour victims of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi; \u201cas we remember the past we should not forget also to think about the bright future of Rwanda\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-2479 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/uhagarariye_ambasaderi_wa_usa_mu_rwanda_jessica_lapen_ageza_ijambo_kubari_bitabiriye_umuhango_wo_kwibuka.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>{Charge d\u2019Affaires at the US Embassy in Kigali, Jessica Lapen } <\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-2478 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/abari_baje_kwibuka_bakurikirana_ubutumwa_butandukanye_bwatangwaga.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{{The US Embassy in Kigali has honoured 25 former employees at the embassy that were killed during the 1994 genocide against ethnic Tutsi\u2019s.}} The event was held April 18 at the Embassy attended by hundreds of people including Embassy staff, Government officials, and family members of the victims and Orphans of the deceased Employees.
