Manneh has admitted that the United Nations used poor judgement in response to the Genocide, which claimed over a million people in 1994. }} <\/p>\n<p>He said; \u201cIt gives me comfort to note that after the initial terrible mistakes and errors of judgment the UN made in the run up to, and during the Genocide, it has been a faithful partner for Rwanda\u2019s remarkable recovery and reconstruction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Manneh noted, \u201cWe commend the Government of Rwanda for the tremendous progress it has made in rebuilding, uniting, and reconciling the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor 19 years, the UN has joined with you to foster peace and reconciliation in Rwanda and lay the foundation for the process of transformation that is already underway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The UN Resident Coordinator made the remarks during an event organised by the entire UN staff in Rwanda to mark the 19th anniversary of the Genocide against the Tutsi, and to remember former UN employees killed in the Genocide.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-2442 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/Abayobonzi_bakuru_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-2440 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/ooo-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-2434 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/UNS.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>{Family members of former employees of the UN in Rwanda killed during the Genocide laying wreaths at the monument in the UNDP compound.} <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{{The UN Resident Coordinator in Rwanda, Lamin M.
