Africa Police Charged with Murder of Taxi Driver"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{{Nine police officers in South Africa have been charged with the murder of a taxi driver who was dragged from a police vehicle and later found dead.}}<\/p>\n<p>Mido Macia, a 27-year-old taxi driver from Mozambique, was found dead in police custody on February 27 in Daveyton township in Johannesburg with severe head injuries.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa&#8217;s police watchdog, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate, said Macia suffered head injuries and internal bleeding.<\/p>\n<p>Several dozen protesters gathered outside a courthouse on Friday in Johannesburg demanding that the indicted policemen should not be granted bail.<\/p>\n<p>A graphic video footage posted online showing the Mozambican being tied to a vehicle by uniformed officers and dragged down a street for apparently parking his vehicle on the wrong side sparked outrage across the country.<\/p>\n<p>The incident was condemned by President Jacob Zuma. &#8220;The visuals of the incident are horrific, disturbing and unacceptable.
