The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Louise Mushikiwabo has explained the growing Sino-Rwanda cooperation which she describes as very important to Rwanda and Africa.<\/p>\n
In her interview with Xinhua, Mushikiwabo said Rwanda needs China in areas especially infrastructure development.<\/p>\n
{Below are excerpts of the interview} <\/p>\n
Xinhua: {{Minister, how is the partnership between Rwanda and China and what are the prospects?}}<\/p>\n
Mushikiwabo:The partnership between China and African countries and my country Rwanda in particular is a partnership which we rejoice, because this is a partnership that has a lot of importance on our continent. <\/p>\n
China, like other countries and other parts of the world should be very interested in Africa, both for infrastructure and for other aspects of our development too.<\/p>\n
In terms of outlook, I can confidently say that the prospects are good. With Rwanda in particular, there is a growing partnership. <\/p>\n
China was discovered several years ago, but these five, ten years ago marked increase in infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n
Xinhua: {{Can you name a few flagship projects?}}<\/p>\n
Mushikiwabo: For example, many road projects across the country, offices construction projects in Kigali in particular, small urban roads through the city of Kigali as well. <\/p>\n
And Rwanda is currently in discussions with the Chinese government to guide our priorities together.<\/p>\n
Xinhua: {{In the field of fiber optics such as?}}<\/p>\n
Mushikiwabo: No, in the field of fiber optic Rwanda has benefited from a public-private partnership and this is the Korean company Corea Telecom has installed fiber optics throughout the country.<\/p>\n
Xinhua: {{And in the field of energy, what you can remember?}}<\/p>\n
Mushikiwabo: First, energy is a problem for Rwanda. This is our key development area, but the most important project for the moment, is the exploitation of methane gas in Lake Kivu with a U.S. company, Global Control, with other concessions which are always available to companies other than American society.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
