Chrysler spokesman Richard Sloman said Wednesday that CEO Trent Barcroft was shot Saturday during a robbery outside of Johannesburg. <\/p>\n
Sloman said that Barcroft, a United States citizen, was still in intensive care at a hospital Wednesday but was responding well to treatment.<\/p>\n
A spokesman at the U.S. Embassy in South Africa said it was aware of the shooting, but had no comment.<\/p>\n
Violent crime remains a widespread worry in South Africa. A U.S. Embassy employee was stabbed to death in January.<\/p>\n
Chrysler, based in Auburn Hills, Michigan, is majority owned by Italy’s Fiat SpA. It is the No. 3 car manufacturer in the U.S.<\/p>\n
