{"id":5682,"date":"2013-02-06T04:54:47","date_gmt":"2013-02-06T04:54:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/15-chinese-babies-rescued-from-human-traffickers\/"},"modified":"2013-02-06T04:52:47","modified_gmt":"2013-02-06T04:52:47","slug":"15-chinese-babies-rescued-from-human-traffickers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/15-chinese-babies-rescued-from-human-traffickers\/","title":{"rendered":"15 Chinese Babies Rescued from Human Traffickers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{{Fifteen babies rescued by officers from a human trafficking ring had been sold by their parents for 10,000 yuan for a girl and around 30,000 yuan for a boy, said police in south China\u2019s Guangdong Province.}}<\/p>\n<p>One of the babies was found dead and 27 suspects were caught, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.<\/p>\n<p>The babies are under a year old and the youngest was only 10 days old when police found them during a joint operation in October.<\/p>\n<p>The babies were to be sold by traffickers for at least 50,000 yuan for boys and 20,000 yuan for girls in Guangdong\u2019s Huizhou City, police said.<br \/>\nMany of the parents in the poor Wenshan County in southwestern Yunnan Province had fled or left home to find work, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Others were traced but denied selling a child and went into hiding.<br \/>\nOnly one baby has been claimed while the others are still at a children\u2019s home in Guangdong.<\/p>\n<p>Police have detained three fathers.<\/p>\n<p>Police compared the babies\u2019 DNA with their database of missing babies and were surprised to find none was reported missing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve handled lots of baby trafficking cases,\u201d said Xie Ying, a police officer in Huizhou. \u201cSuspects swindle or take the babies by force in almost all cases,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Traffickers kept telling the young parents that selling the baby to a richer family would benefit the child, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Xie said the money offered was a lot for some parents.<br \/>\n\u201cThey can build a new house with the money earned,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Children\u2019s home head Chen Su\u2019e said authorities will work with police to determine the children\u2019s futures once the investigation is finished.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey will not be adopted because they are not abandoned babies,\u201d she said. \u201cTheir legal relationship with their parents still exists.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{{Fifteen babies rescued by officers from a human trafficking ring had been sold by their parents for 10,000 yuan for a girl and around 30,000 yuan for a boy, said police in south China\u2019s Guangdong Province.}} One of the babies was found dead and 27 suspects were caught, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.
