Gen Innocent Kabandana passes away"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to sources, Lt Gen Kabandana has been receiving treatment at Rwanda Military Referral and Teaching Hospital before his passing was confirmed on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General by President Paul Kagame in September 2022, following his tour of duty in Mozambique, where Rwandan forces continue to play a key role in repelling insurgents in Cabo Delgado.<\/p>\n<p>Lt Gen Kabandana joined the liberation struggle in 1990 and was among the officers credited with helping end the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. <\/p>\n<p>Over the course of his career, he held several senior military and diplomatic positions, including Defence Attach\u00e9 at Rwanda\u2019s Embassy in Washington, DC, Chief Instructor at the Gako Military Academy, Deputy Force Commander with the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Head of Logistics in RDF, Commandant of the Rwanda Peace Academy, and Commander of the Special Forces.<\/p>\n<p>He is remembered as an experienced officer who contributed significantly to Rwanda\u2019s defence and international peacekeeping operations.<\/p>\n<figure
