winner of Tour du Rwanda 2001, dies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>His family and friends received the sad news on the night of Sunday, July 6, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Nsengiyumva played a significant role in the growth of cycling in Rwanda. <\/p>\n<p>From the start of his career, he took part in most of the major races held in the country, becoming a familiar and respected figure in the sport.<\/p>\n<p>He began cycling in 1979 at the age of 27 and was among the early generation of cyclists to compete in the Tour du Rwanda. <\/p>\n<p>A resident of Muhanga District, he was also one of the participants in the first official edition of the race in 1988. <\/p>\n<p>After years of dedication and determination, he claimed victory in the 2001 edition of the Tour du Rwanda.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-90516\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/fnjhqrwxoaekbza-2afb9.jpg\" alt=\"Bernard Nsengiyumva, a pioneering figure in Rwandan cycling and winner of Tour du Rwanda 2001, has passed away at the age of 73 following a period of illness.\" \/><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-90517\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/fnjhptoxeaaqo12-0ec8a.jpg\" alt=\"Nsengiyumva played a significant role in the growth of cycling in Rwanda.\"
