{"id":54359,"date":"2025-06-02T09:29:31","date_gmt":"2025-06-02T09:29:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/iata-forecasts-slower-airline-growth-in-2025-due-to-economic-headwinds\/"},"modified":"2025-06-02T09:31:00","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T09:31:00","slug":"iata-forecasts-slower-airline-growth-in-2025-due-to-economic-headwinds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/iata-forecasts-slower-airline-growth-in-2025-due-to-economic-headwinds\/","title":{"rendered":"IATA forecasts slower airline growth in 2025 due to economic headwinds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IATA projects airline profits will reach $36 billion in 2025\u2014$600 million less than previously expected\u2014while total revenues are set to hit $979 billion, falling short of the earlier $1 trillion estimate.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at IATA\u2019s annual meeting in New Delhi, Director General Willie Walsh warned of mounting economic headwinds, including rising tariffs and geopolitical tensions. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s still a thin buffer and any new tax, increase in airport or navigation charge, demand shock or costly regulation will quickly put the industry&#8217;s resilience to the test,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Air cargo is also expected to slow, with 69 million tonnes forecast this year\u2014down from 72.5 million. Trade tensions, including recent U.S. tariff moves, are partly to blame.<\/p>\n<p>On the bright side, lower oil prices could ease pressure on airlines.
