{"id":5337,"date":"2013-01-22T02:42:32","date_gmt":"2013-01-22T02:42:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/african-leaders-commend-zimbabwe-power-sharing\/"},"modified":"2013-01-22T02:42:21","modified_gmt":"2013-01-22T02:42:21","slug":"african-leaders-commend-zimbabwe-power-sharing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/african-leaders-commend-zimbabwe-power-sharing\/","title":{"rendered":"African Leaders Commend Zimbabwe Power Sharing Deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{{African leaders have hailed parties in Zimbabwe&#8217;s inclusive Government for finally reaching an agreement in the constitution-making process.}}<\/p>\n<p>Vice-presidents from various African countries who were in Zimbabwe for Vice President Landa John Nkomo\u2019s burial in Harare yesterday said the country could now move forward after the breakthrough last week.<\/p>\n<p>The leaders \u2014 Zambian Vice President Guy Scott, his South African counterpart Mr Kgalema Motlanthe, VP Ponatshego Kedikilwe (Botswana), Tanzania\u2019s Vice President Dr Mohammed Chalib Bilal, Namibian Prime Minister and Swapo vice president Dr Hage Geingob \u2014 paid courtesy calls on President Mugabe at State House after the burial.<\/p>\n<p>They also took time to pay their condolences to President Mugabe.<br \/>\nPresident Mugabe apprised the visiting leaders on the recent agreement made in the constitution making process.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after meeting President Mugabe, VP Scott said the visit was in solidarity with the people of Zimbabwe during their period of mourning.<\/p>\n<p>He described the late VP Nkomo as a \u201cfine and friendly\u201d man.<br \/>\n\u201cWe came here to show that we are with you as you mourn such a great man that we have known for a long time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>VP Motlanthe said President Mugabe had also briefed him about the latest developments in the full implementation of the Global Political Agreement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are glad that there has been a breakthrough in the constitution making process and you are ready to go for referendum and elections. From now on, it\u2019s all systems go,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Botswana VP Kedikilwe said he was delighted that parties in the inclusive Government had found common ground during the constitution-making process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe now hope that Parliament will endorse the draft Constitution to allow the country to move on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said Botswana was eager to enhance trade with Zimbabwe so that both countries benefit from their resources.<\/p>\n<p>VP Bilal said VP Nkomo\u2019s death was a great loss to the people of Zimbabwe and Africa as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cZimbabwe has lost a great patriot.
