\u201cJason and I have decided to call off our engagement. I\u2019ll always adore him and we will remain great friends,\u201d Spears said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The singer got engaged to her former agent in December 2011.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs this chapter ends for us a new one begins,\u201d Trawick said in the statement. \u201cI love and cherish her and her boys and we will be close forever.\u201d<\/p>\n
The couple started dating in 2009.<\/p>\n
Trawick told \u201cAccess Hollywood\u201d in December 2011 that he got down on one knee to pop the question and Spears\u2019 sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, witnessed the proposal.<\/p>\n
But Spears\u2019 representative, Jeff Raymond, said they\u2019ve now decided to be just friends.<\/p>\n
\u201cBritney Spears and Jason Trawick have mutually agreed to end their one-year engagement,\u201d Raymond said. \u201cAs two mature adults, they came to the difficult decision to go their separate ways while continuing to remain friends.\u201d<\/p>\n
The news of the break-up came after Spears announced earlier today that she would not be returning as a judge on the TV show, \u201cThe X Factor.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve made the very difficult decision not to return for another season,\u201d Spears said in a prepared statement.<\/p>\n
The reason: She wants to start making new music.<\/p>\n
