{"id":48911,"date":"2023-09-20T15:40:43","date_gmt":"2023-09-20T15:40:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/rwanda-to-host-the-un-conference-on-landlocked-developing-countries\/"},"modified":"2023-09-20T15:45:22","modified_gmt":"2023-09-20T15:45:22","slug":"rwanda-to-host-the-un-conference-on-landlocked-developing-countries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/rwanda-to-host-the-un-conference-on-landlocked-developing-countries\/","title":{"rendered":"Rwanda to host UN conference on landlocked developing countries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The  announcement  was  made  by  President  Paul  Kagame  as  he  addressed  delegates  at  the 78th United Nations General Assembly in  New York  on  20, September, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>In  his  speech, Kagame  expressed  concerns  about  the  slow  pace  of  developing  countries  towards  the  Sustainable  Development  Goals (SDGs)  a  thing  he  attributed  to  the  debt  crisis, as  a  result  of  \u2018higher  costs  of  borrowing\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe primary cause of this crisis is high interest rates in developed economies, at the same time, developing countries face exaggerated risk premiums for both currency and political risk, which are simply unjustified,\u201d he  explained.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Kagame  stressed  the  necessity  for  developing  countries  to  be  responsible  and  accountable  for  the  quality  of  their  financial  governance  and  management  of  their  natural  resources.<\/p>\n<p>Welcoming  the  proposals  of  the  \u2018Bridgetown  Initiative\u2019  and  the  \u2018Paris  Summit  for  a  New  Global  Financing  Pact\u2019, Kagame  hinted  on  Rwanda\u2019s  support  for  the  second  retrieval  of  the  \u2018Green  Climate  Fund\u2019  to  create  a  fiscal  space  for  \u201cvulnerable\u201d  nations  to  tackle  climate  change.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, he  pronounced  the  country\u2019s  commitment  to  providing  a  solution  to  conflicts  in  developing  countries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must not only cool down on climate, we must also cool down on conflict. Today, there is no sign of ongoing conflicts ending anytime soon. We do not even see hope from those with the most influence that an end is in sight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery year, migrants and refugees undertake dangerous journeys in search of a better future.
