{"id":48042,"date":"2023-05-10T09:59:17","date_gmt":"2023-05-10T09:59:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/commonwealth-secretary-general-to-attend-anti-corruption-conference-in-the\/"},"modified":"2023-05-10T10:03:51","modified_gmt":"2023-05-10T10:03:51","slug":"commonwealth-secretary-general-to-attend-anti-corruption-conference-in-the","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/commonwealth-secretary-general-to-attend-anti-corruption-conference-in-the\/","title":{"rendered":"Commonwealth Secretary-General to attend anti-corruption conference in the Seychelles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The conference is being organised by the Commonwealth Secretariat in partnership with the Seychelles Anti-Corruption Commission.<\/p>\n<p>The Secretary-General will host a roundtable with anti-corruption heads prior to the conference, where she is the special guest of honour.<\/p>\n<p>The conference is a focal point for the Association of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Commonwealth Africa (set up by the Commonwealth Secretariat in 2011) to meet, discuss and formulate actions to collaboratively tackle systemic corruption and the illicit flow of funds out of the continent.<\/p>\n<p>The Secretary-General said: \u201cIt a pleasure to once again be visiting the Seychelles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCorruption continues to be a key challenge across the African continent. Nations are suffering heavy losses as the result of illicit financial flows linked to the proceeds of corruption and crime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is clear corruption poses a significant roadblock to societies \u2013 one that undermines social and economic development and impedes progress towards the UN sustainable development goals.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are supporting all our member states, in Africa and across the Commonwealth, to improve transparency and accountability, and build institutions and systems which are resilient to corruption. Our conference in the Seychelles is a fantastic opportunity to unite Commonwealth Africa in the fight against corruption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the UN, corruption costs the global economy $3.6 trillion each year.
