{"id":46640,"date":"2022-09-16T07:15:54","date_gmt":"2022-09-16T07:15:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/premier-ngirente-represents-kagame-at-swearing-in-of-angolan-president\/"},"modified":"2022-09-16T07:18:36","modified_gmt":"2022-09-16T07:18:36","slug":"premier-ngirente-represents-kagame-at-swearing-in-of-angolan-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/premier-ngirente-represents-kagame-at-swearing-in-of-angolan-president\/","title":{"rendered":"Premier Ngirente represents Kagame at swearing-in of Angolan president"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Louren\u00e7o was sworn in to lead the country for another term during a colorful ceremony which took place on Thursday 15th September 2022 at Praca de Republica Luanda, the capital of Angola.<\/p>\n<p>It was attended by African Heads of State including Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe, Hage Geingob of Namibia and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the President of Portugal which colonized the country. <\/p>\n<p>President Kagame was represented by Premier Ngirente who arrived in Angola on Thursday morning.  <\/p>\n<p>During the inauguration ceremony, the sworn-in president pledged to selflessly serve all Angolan citizens and tackle the issue of joblessness. <\/p>\n<p>Lourenco,68, was sworn in along with Esperanca da Costa, the country\u2019s first ever female vice president.  <\/p>\n<p>He was re-elected following the victory of the People\u2019s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), Angola\u2019s ruling party which was declared the winner of the 2022 general elections held last month with 51.17 percent of the votes cast.<\/p>\n<p>The nation\u2019s largest opposition party, the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), gained 43.95 percent of the total votes cast.<\/p>\n<p>In accordance with the Angolan constitution, the top candidate of a political party that wins the most votes is elected as president.<\/p>\n<p>MPLA has ruled the country for almost 50 years after the country\u2019s Independence in 1975.  <\/p>\n<p>It is however blamed for failure to address the issue of poverty and high rate of unemployment.  <\/p>\n<p>Louren\u00e7o was elected Angolan president in 2017 replacing Jos\u00e9 Eduardo dos Santos.<br \/>\nDos Santos died of natural cause in July this year.
