{"id":46554,"date":"2022-09-05T15:34:29","date_gmt":"2022-09-05T15:34:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/kenya-supreme-court-confirms-william-ruto-s-victory\/"},"modified":"2022-09-05T15:35:53","modified_gmt":"2022-09-05T15:35:53","slug":"kenya-supreme-court-confirms-william-ruto-s-victory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/kenya-supreme-court-confirms-william-ruto-s-victory\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya Supreme Court confirms William Ruto&#8217;s victory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following the ruling, Mr Ruto,55, who has been serving as the deputy president said that he would extend a hand of friendship to his political opponents, and praised the judiciary and the electoral commission for upholding the will of the country&#8217;s people. <\/p>\n<p>Ruto will be serving as Kenya&#8217;s fifth President after Independence.<\/p>\n<p>Kenya\u2019s Presidential elections in Kenya took place on 9th August 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Results from Kenya\u2019s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) indicated that Ruto won with 50.49% of the vote, narrowly defeating veteran opposition leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who secured 48.85 of votes. The latter was contesting his fifth election.<\/p>\n<p>Raila Odinga and his supporters contested election results citing fraud and filed a petition to the Supreme Court.
