{"id":45752,"date":"2022-05-03T06:30:00","date_gmt":"2022-05-03T06:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/boat-accident-in-lake-kivu-claims-two-lives\/"},"modified":"2022-05-03T08:56:04","modified_gmt":"2022-05-03T08:56:04","slug":"boat-accident-in-lake-kivu-claims-two-lives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/boat-accident-in-lake-kivu-claims-two-lives\/","title":{"rendered":"Boat accident in Lake Kivu claims two lives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The incident happened on Monday 2nd May 2022 in Bigabiro Village, Remera Cell of Boneza Sector when a boat that carried 33 passengers including 13 men and 20 women was hit by wave and capsized.  <\/p>\n<p>Etienne Havugimana, the Vice Mayor of Rutsiro District in charge of economic development has confirmed the incident noting that three passengers have gone missing.    <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe accident occurred around 2:00 p.m. when a boat carrying 33 passengers to Bugarura Island was blown by strong wind.  Besides, passengers had no life jackets and the boat doesn\u2019t meet requirements to carry people,\u201d he said.   <\/p>\n<p>Those who went missing are being searched in collaboration with security officials.<\/p>\n<p>Survivors are also getting treatment at Boneza Health Center while those in critical condition have been transferred to Murunda Hospital.  <\/p>\n<p>Similar accident in the same area took place in August 2021 and claimed lives of two women.  <\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-42163 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/lake-kivu-islands-960x450-78826.jpg\" alt=\"Boat accident has claimed two lives in Lake Kivu.  \" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{Two residents of Rutsiro District have perished while three others have gone missing following a boat accident in Lake Kivu.
