ARC Power was formed in 2016 and now employs more than fifty people across the organisation, a significant portion of which is based in Rwanda. The company has developed a containerised solar mini-grid generation unit, called an ARC, to deliver first-time power to rural communities across East Africa. The technology provides twenty-four hour, uninterrupted, productive-use (AC) power to rural communities, with the ability to power standalone mini-grids or interconnect to the national grid. <\/p>\n

ARC Power has already connected more than 10,000 Rwandans to first-time power with numbers set to grow in the coming years. The company is leveraging its experience and notable track record in Rwanda to scale rapidly and bring affordable, reliable and clean distributed power to communities across the continent.<\/p>\n

Operating initially in East and Southern Africa, the next phase of expansion will focus on Rwanda, Malawi and Mozambique, where ARC Power now has a significant pipeline and plans to connect more than two million people to first-time power over the next five years. ARC Power is at the forefront of Africa\u2019s energy revolution, helping to unlock the continent\u2019s potential as a world leader in distributed renewable energy. <\/p>\n

Speaking after the Queen\u2019s Awards for Enterprise winners were announced on 21st April 2022, the CEO of ARC Power, Karl Boyce, said: \u201cWe are truly honoured to receive this award and see it as a testament to the tireless work put in by the entire ARC Power team. As a business, we are incredibly passionate about the importance of delivering sustainable, clean energy to the 600 million people in Africa who are currently without access. We accept this award as recognition of the importance of increasing accessibility across the continent but our job here is far from done.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead, we are excited to be working with the government of Rwanda and Rwanda Energy Group on a new collaboration which will allow us to rapidly scale access to energy for those not currently connected.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now in its 56th year, the Queen\u2019s Awards for Enterprise are the most prestigious business awards in the UK, with winning businesses granted permission to display the esteemed Queen\u2019s Awards Emblem for the next five years.<\/p>\n
