{"id":45712,"date":"2022-04-26T10:59:25","date_gmt":"2022-04-26T10:59:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/65-remains-of-genocide-victims-accorded-decent-burial-in-ruhango\/"},"modified":"2022-04-26T11:18:07","modified_gmt":"2022-04-26T11:18:07","slug":"65-remains-of-genocide-victims-accorded-decent-burial-in-ruhango","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/65-remains-of-genocide-victims-accorded-decent-burial-in-ruhango\/","title":{"rendered":"65 remains of Genocide victims accorded decent burial in Ruhango"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The remains were relocated from dilapidated graves to Kinazi Genocide Memorial which accommodates 163,150 remains.  <\/p>\n<p>The victims laid there were killed in former Commune Ntongwe and Mayaga.  <\/p>\n<p>Elise Mukarubuga, a survivor who provided testimonies at the event revealed she lost 42 relatives during Genocide against Tutsi.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur family was composed of 63 people but only 21 survived,\u201d she said.  <\/p>\n<p>Mukarubuga disclosed that Interahamwe militiamen surrounded them, threw grenades and fired several bullets among them in the night of 20th April 1994. <\/p>\n<p>Senator Prof. Jean Pierre Dusingizemungu who delivered a talk at the event, explained how the first and second republics resepctively led by Gregoire Kayibanda and Juvenal Habyarimana fuelled ethnic divisionism.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cA learner in primary school had a document showing his\/her ethnic identity. The home was also known when the pupil turned seven years old,\u201d he noted.  <\/p>\n<p>As Prof. Dusingizemungu explained, students at the time did not get equal opportunities to access education as those identified as Tutsis continued to be persecuted. <\/p>\n<p>He however thanked the current government which reunited Rwandans and promoted reconciliation for people to live in harmony.  <\/p>\n<p>The President of IBUKA, Egide Nkuranga said that commemorating is a way to preserve memory of victims killed during Genocide against Tutsi.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe youth need to be deeply taught the history of Genocide against Tutsi and learn more from testimonies,\u201d he said.  <\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Local Government, Jean Marie Vianney Gatabazi has said that the youth need to be properly raised lest they are lured by propagandists propagating Genocide ideology.  <\/p>\n<p>He also blamed the bad leadership which planned and executed Genocide, and comforted survivors reassuring them of continued support to promote their wellbeing through different programs.   <\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-42043 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/mu_karere_ka_ruhango_hashyinguwe_mu_cyubahiro_imibiri_65_y_abishwe_muri_jenoside_yakorewe_abatutsi-961e7.jpg\" alt=\"65 remains of Genocide victims were accorded decent burial at the event. \" \/><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-42044 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/minisitiri_gatabazi_yunamiye_abatutsi_baruhukiye_mu_rwibutso_rwa_jenoside_rwa_kinazi-15cd4.jpg\" alt=\"Minister Gatabazi honouring Genocide victims laid at the memorial.  \" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{65 remains of victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Kinazi Sector of Ruhango District have been accorded decent burial.
