{"id":45420,"date":"2022-03-09T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-03-09T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/equality-is-a-right-not-a-favour-kagame\/"},"modified":"2022-03-12T12:08:16","modified_gmt":"2022-03-12T12:08:16","slug":"equality-is-a-right-not-a-favour-kagame","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/equality-is-a-right-not-a-favour-kagame\/","title":{"rendered":"Equality is a right not a favour \u2013 Kagame"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Kagame has via his Twitter handle sent best wishes to women in Rwanda and beyond as they celebrated the IWD 2022 on 8th March.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, we celebrate the resilience of Rwandan women who have been at the center of Rwanda\u2019s transformation journey,\u201d he tweeted on Tuesday.  <\/p>\n<p>From the beginning, the Head of State said, RPF has walked the talk by creating an environment that enabled women to take their rightful place. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cGender equality has always been central to the politics of RPF. The progress we see in Rwanda today is the result of this commitment to inclusivity,\u201d he noted.  <\/p>\n<p>Equality is a right not a favour. We must challenge ourselves to do even more and better to ensure that the next generations of our daughters and granddaughters inherit a nation where their aspirations have no limits,\u201d Kagame added.  <\/p>\n<p>Rwanda has earned international reputation for its efforts to empower women and promote gender equality.  <\/p>\n<p>The success was a result of the country\u2019s commitment to inclusivity, which among other things, saw the country giving women the floor in decision making positions.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, women have 61 % and 50% representation respectively in Rwanda\u2019s parliament and cabinet.  <\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-41261 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/akagum.jpg\" alt=\"President Kagame has via his Twitter handle sent best wishes to women. \" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{President Paul Kagame has joined the rest of the world to celebrate the International Women\u2019s Day 2022 (IWD 2022) and reminded the general public that equality is not a favour.
