He was ordained priest on 18th May 1997.   <\/p>\n<p>He holds PhD in Theology obtained from Germany in 2006.  <\/p>\n<p>Bishop Nzakamwita has told IGIHE that it has been three years since he submitted the request for retirement which is reached at the age of 75.   <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can now retire as he has been appointed,\u201d he said.  <\/p>\n<p>Bishop Nzakamwita thanked Christians of Byumba Diocese who stood with him during his 25-year service leading the Diocese.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would like to encourage them to work with my successor and consider evangelization as the axis of development of the diocese and its Christians,\u201d he said.  <\/p>\n<p>Bishop Nzakamwita has revealed that the diocese has increased parishes from 12 to 23 for the past 25 years.   <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had 700,000 Christians that have increased to nearly 800,000 from a total population of more than 1.7 million. The diocese only had three priests where I assumed duties because others had been killed. I became the fourth. As of today, the number has increased to 150,\u201d he said.   <\/p>\n<p>{{Who is Bishop Musengamana}}<\/p>\n<p>Papias Musengamana was born on August 21, 1967 in Byimana, Diocese of Kabgayi. After attending primary school in Mwendo (1974-1982), he entered the Petit S\u00e9minaire Saint L\u00e9on in Kabgayi (1982-1988). <\/p>\n<p>Musengamana attended the Preparatory Seminary of Rutongo (1988-1989) and the Major Seminary of Philosophy of Kabgayi (1989-1991). He completed his Theology studies at the Universit\u00e9 Catholique d \u2019Afrique Centrale-Institut Catholique de Yaound\u00e9 in Cameroon (1991-1996) where he obtained a Licentiate in Biblical Theology. He was ordained a priest on May 18, 1997.<\/p>\n<p>Since his priestly ordination, Musengamana has held the following positions: Secretary of the Bishop (1997-1999); Doctorate in Biblical Theology at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universit\u00e4t Freiburg in Germany (1999-2005); Parish Vicar in Kamonyi (2005-2006); Diocesan Treasurer (2006-2013); Vicar General of Kabgayi (2013-2017) and since 2018 he has been Rector of the Grand S\u00e9minaire Saint Charles Borrom\u00e9e of Nyakibanda.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-41180 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/bishop.jpg\" alt=\"Bishop Musengamana was ordained priest on 18th May 1997.   \" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bishop Nzakamwita is replaced three years after requesting Pope Francis to grant him retirement.
