{"id":45028,"date":"2021-12-24T06:48:24","date_gmt":"2021-12-24T06:48:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/kigali-nine-motorists-arrested-over-drunk-driving\/"},"modified":"2021-12-24T06:50:49","modified_gmt":"2021-12-24T06:50:49","slug":"kigali-nine-motorists-arrested-over-drunk-driving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/kigali-nine-motorists-arrested-over-drunk-driving\/","title":{"rendered":"Kigali: Nine motorists arrested over drunk-driving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>They were paraded to the media on Thursday, December 23, at Nyarugenge District Police Unit offices in Rwezamenyo Sector.<\/p>\n<p>Emmanuel Hakizimfura, one of the motorists paraded, admitted that he had taken alcohol before he was arrested riding his motorcycle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was arrested on Monday, December 20, at Rwandex as I was returning back home. I had taken alcohol and I tested 2 millilitres of blood alcohol content,&#8221; Hakizimfura said.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rene Irere, the spokesperson for the Traffic and Road Safety department warned motorists against such fatal road violations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Driving while drunk is among the major causes of fatal road accidents and Police has in the past conducted various campaigns to raise awareness against such human behaviours to save lives. These are some of the people, who have decided to keep deaf ears, which will not be tolerated,&#8221; SSP Irere warned.<\/p>\n<p>He urged road users particularly drivers, to use the road responsibly and refrain from any behaviours and decisions that put them and other road users in danger.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-40453 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/tra-2.jpg\" alt=\"Nine motorists have been arrested over drunk-driving. \" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{Nine motorists have been arrested in City of Kigali for driving while under the influence of alcohol.
