{"id":44489,"date":"2021-09-28T08:27:00","date_gmt":"2021-09-28T08:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/rwanda-rejects-hrw-report-on-mistreatment-of-transgender-people-sex-workers-and\/"},"modified":"2021-10-04T11:36:28","modified_gmt":"2021-10-04T11:36:28","slug":"rwanda-rejects-hrw-report-on-mistreatment-of-transgender-people-sex-workers-and","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/rwanda-rejects-hrw-report-on-mistreatment-of-transgender-people-sex-workers-and\/","title":{"rendered":"Rwanda rejects HRW report on mistreatment of transgender people, sex workers and street children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The recently released report titled \u2018Rwanda: Round Ups-Linked to Commonwealth Meeting\u2019 reads that Rwandan authorities rounded up and arbitrarily detained over a dozen gay and transgender people, sex workers, street children, and others in the months before a planned The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) that was postponed due to COVID-19 related restrictions.  <\/p>\n<p>The report shows they were held in a transit center in Gikondo commonly known as \u2018Kwa Kabuga\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Following the release of the report; the Spokesperson of the Government of Rwanda, Yolande Makolo has via Twitter handle refuted the accusations noting that they are part of planned and unfounded allegations meant to tarnish the country\u2019s reputation.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHRW&#8217;s report on Rwanda is a calculated attempt to harm a strategic sector of our economy with fabricated allegations. The sabotage won\u2019t work because the allegations are not true.
