Tumba which accomodates many students from the university was placed under lockdown recently. <\/p>\n
Initially, students and staff of the university were allowed to move as long as they present their cards. <\/p>\n
The statement by Huye Campus Administrator, Wilson Nzitatira reads that the decision is in accordance with guidelines from the Ministry of Local Government (MINALOC) of 11th August 2021 which put ten sectors including Tumba under lockdown. <\/p>\n
The decision requiring concerned students to stay home until lockdown is lifted in Tumba takes effect from 17th August 2021. <\/p>\n
The university\u2019s staff living in the same sector are also urged to stay home until further notice. <\/p>\n
Physical classes have been also suspended until lockdown is lifted in Tumba sector. <\/p>\n
Among others, concerned students are allowed to have lunch at the university\u2019s restaurant after presenting their student and meal cards. <\/p>\n
Lecturers have been requested to use the period of lockdown to mark results for completed exams. <\/p>\n
The Mayor of Huye district, Ange Sebutege has told IGIHE that the decision was needed considering the high number of COVID-19 cases in Tumba sector. <\/p>\n
\u201cTumba is the only sector with highest number of COVID-19 patients, majority of whom being attended to under home based care. Controlling movements will reduce transmission of the virus,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
