The ceremony took place at Kigali Public Library on Sunday 8th August 2021in a hybrid-format to comply with COVID-19 guidelines. <\/p>\n

Rotary club is an organization purposed to bring together businesses and professionals to provide humanitarian services and providing support in addressing problems facing the world by combating illiteracy and poverty, contributing to the provision of safe water, handling disputes and fighting disease.<\/p>\n

Rotary Club International was established 116 years ago. It is currently comprised of 1.2 million members from 200 countries.<\/p>\n

In Rwanda, the organization has 157 members from seven clubs including Rotary Club Kigali Doyen, Mont Jali, Musanze Murera, Butare, Gasabo, Kigali-Virunga and Bugoyi Ibirunga.<\/p>\n

These clubs get new leaders every year on rotational basis. <\/p>\n

Suman Alla installed to head the club in 2021-2022, replaces Jwala Kumar. <\/p>\n

Speaking during the event, Cyr Tougouma thanked the outgoing President for exhibited courage during difficult times of COVID-19 and urged the successor to take the club to greater heights. <\/p>\n

\u201cI am optimistic that all rotary Club members will join hands with him to achieve great things and raise through the ranks,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

Suman Alla committed to build on existing achievements to ensure the club maintains its contribution to Rotary International.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe club will continue to do more and grow. This is about increasing impactful projects, members and partnerships,\u201d he noted. <\/p>\n

Taking inspiration from renowned author Robin Sharma, Suman highlighted that leadership is about impact, influence and inspiration which he pledged to emulated during his tenure. <\/p>\n

\u201cI am not standing here as the president but a facilitator to solve problems in the surrounding community,\u201d he stressed. <\/p>\n

Tougouma who has been in Rwanda from 4th to 9th August 2021 also visited Kigali Public Library launched in partnership with Rotary Club Kigali Virunga where he received explanations on its operations. <\/p>\n

Rotary Club Kigali Virunga raised US$1.2 million funds while the Government of Rwanda provided US$4.8$ million for the construction of the library inaugurated in 2012. <\/p>\n

Rotary Club Kigali Virunga also funded the construction of transit accommodation facility for cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy treatment at Kanombe Military Hospital coming from different parts of the country.<\/p>\n

Dr. Jean D\u2019Amour Manirere is currently serving as the Assistant District Governor in Rwanda. He recently replaced Jeannette Rugera who assumed other duties as the Executive Secretary of District 9150. <\/p>\n
