{"id":44031,"date":"2021-07-30T11:14:10","date_gmt":"2021-07-30T11:14:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/rwanda-repatriates-nineteen-militants-to-burundi\/"},"modified":"2021-08-02T16:48:11","modified_gmt":"2021-08-02T16:48:11","slug":"rwanda-repatriates-nineteen-militants-to-burundi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/rwanda-repatriates-nineteen-militants-to-burundi\/","title":{"rendered":"Rwanda repatriates nineteen militants to Burundi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>These rebels apprehended in Nyungwe National Park in September 2020 have been handed over to Burundi during an event that took place on Friday 30th July 2021 at Nemba border separating Rwanda and Burundi.  <\/p>\n<p>Rwanda was represented by Brig Gen Vincent Nyakarundi, the Head of Defence Intelligence while Burundi was represented by spy chief, Col Ernest Musaba.  <\/p>\n<p>The handover of these combatants was also witnessed by the Commander of EJVM, Col Jose\u00e9 Rui Lourdes and the Deputy Country Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Burundi, Richmond Tiemoko.<\/p>\n<p>Armed with guns, the nineteen Burundian combatants who identified themselves as members of RED Tabara armed group were arrested in Ruheru sector of Nyaruguru district, Southern Province after illegally crossing from Burundi to Rwandan territory.<\/p>\n<p>The EJVM Commander, Col J Miranda commended the good will and engagement demonstrated by both countries, Rwanda and Burundi and said the handover was a sign of collaboration in achieving peace and security in the region. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-39055 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/arre.jpg\" alt=\"Repatriated rebels were apprehended in September 2020.  \" \/><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-39054 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/aaaaass.jpg\" alt=\"Security officials from both countries during discussions at the handover of arrested militants.\" \/><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-39053 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/aaaaaaaaaaaa-2.jpg\" alt=\"The handover took place at Nemba border separating Rwanda and Burundi.  \" \/><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-39052 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/aaaaaaaaa.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) has through the Expanded Joint Verification Mechanism (EJVM) handed over 19 combatants of RED-Tabara to Burundi.
