The construction of Rambura – Nyange road and completion of Rubengera \u2013 Muhanga road is expected to promote trade, increase mobility and reduce transport costs by facilitating regional mobility of both goods and people. In addition, the road will contribute towards provision of efficient transport by improving the road transport sector and the realization of the National Strategy for Transformation (NST1) targets. <\/p>\n

The agreement was signed recently on 12th July 2021 by Ambassador of Rwanda to the United Arab Emirates, Emmanuel Hategeka on behalf of the Government of Rwanda and Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, the Director General of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD).<\/p>\n

Speaking after the signing Ambassador Hategeka said that improving Rwanda\u2019s road infrastructure was a key pillar of the success of Rwanda Vision 2020 and will continue to be considered during the implementation of Vision 2050.<\/p>\n

\u201cStrengthening the connection of our rural and urban centers contributes to so many aspects of our national economic and social development agenda, touching everything from small and medium enterprises, trade, travel and tourism, to food security. We have established good cooperation with Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and the United Arab Emirates and greatly value their support in this important infrastructure development program,\u201d he noted. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe concessional loan agreement symbolizes good collaboration of friendly countries and we appreciate the support of partners like ADFD in our development journey. With a focus on investing in infrastructure; economies stimulate growth for a number of economic sectors i.e. agriculture, tourism as well as creation for jobs for the locals.\u201d<\/p>\n

Commenting on the development, Suwaidi said: \u201cImproving road infrastructure is a key pillar of the continued economic development and social growth strategy of Rwanda. While it brings numerous benefits, one major impact is that it will better connect trade routes across multiple Central African nations, a region that represents growing international trade potential for the UAE. ADFD\u2019s support of this strategic project will directly benefit the Rwandan people while also contributing to economic growth in the African region and expand trade opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rambura – Nyange road project is a section of the 61.15 kilometers Rubengera-Muhanga road connecting the Southern and the Western provinces. It is expected to support transport, agriculture, and tourism sectors to enhance economic and social development by raising the efficient transportation between cities, enhancing traffic safety and improve the population’s access to various government services.<\/p>\n

This is the second project ADFD has supported in Rwanda in a relationship that started in 1981 with the US$14 million (AED51 million) construction of the Kigali International Airport.<\/p>\n
