{"id":43657,"date":"2021-06-05T13:50:57","date_gmt":"2021-06-05T13:50:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/government-private-sector-in-joint-efforts-to-set-up-plastic-recycling-plant\/"},"modified":"2021-06-11T10:03:57","modified_gmt":"2021-06-11T10:03:57","slug":"government-private-sector-in-joint-efforts-to-set-up-plastic-recycling-plant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/government-private-sector-in-joint-efforts-to-set-up-plastic-recycling-plant\/","title":{"rendered":"Government, private sector in joint efforts to set up plastic recycling plant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The project launched on Friday 4th June 2021 as Rwanda celebrated the World Environment Day which is marked on 5th June globally.  <\/p>\n<p>The plant is expected to buy plastic wastes at a cost of Rwf 90 per kilogram.  <\/p>\n<p>The Minister of Environment, Dr. Jeanne d\u2019Arc Mujawamariya has explained that the project comes in handy to complement existing environment preservation efforts and benefit people collecting plastic wastes. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe shall sensitize people to collect plastic wastes for the recycling plant.  The project will discourage Rwandans throwing plastic materials but rather to use them to generate activities while reducing threats to biodiversity in the ecosystem,\u201d he said.  <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Mujawamariya explained that implementation phase of the project is expected begin towards the end of 2021.   <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrivate investors will join hands for the project to materialize,\u201d she noted.  <\/p>\n<p>Companies requiring single-use plastic materials in daily activities have already contributed funds to begin the project. These include Inyange Industry, Sulfo Rwanda, Bralirwa and Ese Urwibutso among others.<\/p>\n<p>PSF Chairman, Robert Bapfakurera has said that some members of the private sector who understood the relevance of the project contributed over Rwf 9.6 million and encouraged others to support the initiative.    <\/p>\n<p> \u201cYou know that people use plastics for various purposes.  We need to raise more funds than contributed Rwf 6.9 million to implement the project,\u201d he noted. <\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s World Environment Day is celebrated under the theme \u201cEcosystem Restoration\u201d.  <\/p>\n<p>The first celebration took place in 1974.
