{"id":43002,"date":"2021-03-04T10:49:01","date_gmt":"2021-03-04T10:49:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/dr-nsanzabaganwa-hands-over-bnr-duties\/"},"modified":"2021-03-04T10:52:46","modified_gmt":"2021-03-04T10:52:46","slug":"dr-nsanzabaganwa-hands-over-bnr-duties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/dr-nsanzabaganwa-hands-over-bnr-duties\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Nsanzabaganwa hands over BNR duties"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Nsanzabaganwa was elected the Deputy Chairperson of the AUC on 6th February 2021 becoming the first woman assuming the office since the foundation of AU.  <\/p>\n<p>The handover of duties took place yesterday.   <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis morning, Her Excellency Dr. Monique Nsanzabaganwa officially handed over her duties as Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Rwanda following her appointment as Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission,\u201d BNR revealed via Twitter handle.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Nsanzabaganwa, 50, took oath as the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission on 7th February 2021, one day after election.  <\/p>\n<p>Like the Chairperson of the African Union, the deputy holds the office for four-year term, renewable once.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Chairperson of the AUC assists the Chairperson in the execution of his or her functions to ensure the smooth running of the Commission and is in charge of administration and finance.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Nsanzabaganwa has longstanding experience qualifying her to fit for the position.<\/p>\n<p>She holds honorary doctorate received from Stellenbosch University in South Africa for her contribution to Rwanda\u2019s development.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Nsanzabaganwa has been the Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Rwanda since May 2011. Prior to that, she served as Minister of Trade and Industry (2008-2011) and Minister of State in charge of Economic Planning in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (2003-2008).<\/p>\n<p>She is a holder of a PhD in Economics, and a Doctorate of Commerce Honoris Causa, both obtained from Stellenbosch University, South Africa. She is an influential voice in financial inclusion in Rwanda and on international scene as well as a passionate actor in women\u2019s economic empowerment and financial inclusion.<\/p>\n<p>Among others, she is also a member of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion\u2019s Gender Inclusive Finance Committee, an alumna of Women\u2019s World Banking African Advisory Council, and Founding Member and Chairperson of New Faces New Voices Rwanda.<\/p>\n<p>She is a wife and mother.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-37957 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/dr_nsanzabaganwa_monique_yamurikiye_guverineri_wa_bnr_john_rwangombwa_uko_asize_inshingano_yari_afite_zihagaze.jpg\" alt=\"Dr. Nsanzabaganwa handed over BNR duties yesterday.
