{"id":42518,"date":"2020-12-24T16:01:03","date_gmt":"2020-12-24T16:01:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/picking-forms-for-districts-advisory-committee-contenders-postponed\/"},"modified":"2020-12-24T16:02:38","modified_gmt":"2020-12-24T16:02:38","slug":"picking-forms-for-districts-advisory-committee-contenders-postponed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/picking-forms-for-districts-advisory-committee-contenders-postponed\/","title":{"rendered":"NEC postpones picking of forms for districts\u2019 advisory committee contenders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The activity that was scheduled from 28th December 2020 has been postponed to the beginning of next year.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe National Electoral Commission would like to inform the general public that picking candidatures for aspirants seeking to join districts\u2019 advisory committees scheduled on 28th December 2020 has been postponed,\u201d reads the statement released by NEC.  <\/p>\n<p>The Executive Secretary of the National Electoral Commission, Charles Munyaneza has told IGIHE that the exercise has been postponed because the commission didn\u2019t have enough time to mobilize people for participation due to COVID-19.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t have enough time to run activities aimed at mobilizing citizens to participate in elections following the recent cabinet meeting. We have pushed the exercise ahead so that we can get at least two weeks, thus candidates will submit have enough information before submitting forms of candidatures,\u201d he said.  <\/p>\n<p>Munyaneza explained that the postponement won\u2019t affect dates for advisory committees\u2019 elections scheduled on 22nd February 2021.  <\/p>\n<p>Mayoral elections scheduled from 2nd and 3rd March 2021 have been also postponed to 5th March 2021.  <\/p>\n<p>The upcoming elections will begin with the selection of districts\u2019 advisory committees among whom the executive committee comprised of mayor, vice mayors for economic and social affairs will be elected.<\/p>\n<p>The advisory committee is made of members selected at sector level, members from National Youth Council and the coordinator of National Women\u2019s Council at district level.<br \/>\nOthers include the coordinator of the National Council of Persons with Disabilities at district level and the President of Private Sector Federation in the district.
