{"id":42510,"date":"2020-12-24T10:18:50","date_gmt":"2020-12-24T10:18:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/road-accidents-claimed-lives-of-569-in-2020\/"},"modified":"2020-12-27T08:02:48","modified_gmt":"2020-12-27T08:02:48","slug":"road-accidents-claimed-lives-of-569-in-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/road-accidents-claimed-lives-of-569-in-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Road accidents claimed 569 lives in 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Deputy Commissioner for Traffic and Road Safety department, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Gerald Mpayimana highlighted that 90% of road accidents are caused by pedestrians and motorcyclists violating traffic rules. <\/p>\n<p>Severe accidents inflicting injuries also reduced to 600 from 800 of 2019.   <\/p>\n<p>ACP Mpayimana cited distracted driving and over speeding among other major causes of road accidents.  <\/p>\n<p>He encourages motorists and pedestrians to be cautious especially during these festive seasons when curfew hours have been extended pushing drivers to over speed when they are late to return home.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe remind passengers to be vigilant, avoid crossing the road before observing moving vehicles from all sides for own security,\u201d said ACP Mpayimana.  <\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-37428 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/abatwara_ibinyabiziga_barasabwa_kwitwararika_muri_ibi_bihe_by_iminsi_mikuru.jpg\" alt=\"Police encourages motorists and pedestrians to be cautious especially during these festive seasons when curfew hours have been extended.  \" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{Rwanda National Police has revealed that roads accidents in 2020 took lives of 569.
