Since the first COVID-19 patient was confirmed in Rwanda in March 2020, 66 people have succumbed to the pandemic including nine that passed on in the last four days. <\/p>\n

As he featured on a Rwanda Television talk-show giving insights into need for intensified preventive measures yesterday, Dr Nsanzimana explained that the cold weather and rainy season the country is currently experiencing are a favourable breeding ground for the virus, noting that currently 26 patients are in intensive care on ventilators helping them breathe. <\/p>\n

Figures from the Ministry of Health indicate that new 109 new cases were found yesterday in 15 districts showing how the virus is spreading countrywide. <\/p>\n

Dr Nsanzimana warned the general public against complacency because the virus has not yet been defeated. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no place where the virus has been defeated […]. People with such perceptions are wrong,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

Since COVID-19 emerged in Rwanda in March 2020, a total of 7511 people have tested positive out of 698,599 sample tests, 6163 have recovered, 1282 are active cases while 66 have succumbed to the virus.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Health reports the prevalence rate at 0.9% and new infections at 2.6%. <\/p>\n

Coronavirus symptoms include coughing, flu, and difficulty in breathing. The virus is said to be transmitted through the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract.<\/p>\n

Rwandans are urged to adhere to COVID-19 health guidelines, washing hands frequently using soaps and safe water, wearing face masks and respecting social distancing.<\/p>\n
