{"id":41353,"date":"2020-05-11T14:18:10","date_gmt":"2020-05-11T14:18:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/rwf-10-billion-for-river-sebeya-conservation\/"},"modified":"2020-05-11T14:17:57","modified_gmt":"2020-05-11T14:17:57","slug":"rwf-10-billion-for-river-sebeya-conservation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/rwf-10-billion-for-river-sebeya-conservation\/","title":{"rendered":"Rwf 10 billion for River Sebeya conservation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>River Sebeya&#8217;s regular flooding has been affecting many activities in the areas in Western Province, where it destroys infrastructure and endangers the lives of the people. <\/p>\n<p>River Sebeya flows through Rubavu, Rutsiro, Nyabihu, and Ngororero districts for 336 km. Rugerero, Nyundo, and Kanama sectors in Rubavu are among the most affected by the flooding of the river during the monsoon season.<\/p>\n<p>The Director-General of Rwanda Water Resources Agency, Ngabonziza Prime, said that starting in July this year, construction of dams, water pipes and planting trees at the river banks will commence.<\/p>\n<p>Ngabonziza said the flooding of the river was mainly due to non-professional agriculture, deforestation, mining, and other activities. People living along the river will play a key role in the implementation of the project.<\/p>\n<p>The four-year project will be implemented by the Rwanda Water Resources Agency, the Environmental Protection Agency (IUCN), the Dutch Development Agency (SNV) and the Environmental Protection Agency, Action for the Protection of the Environment, and Promotion of the Agricultural Sector (APEFA).<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-35597 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/sebeya-current-photo-1-c2655.jpg\" alt=\"River Sebeya flows through Rubavu, Rutsiro, Nyabihu, and Ngororero districts for 336 km.\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Government of Rwanda has earmarked Rwf10 billion for the regulation of River Sebeya to reduce the risk of flooding.
