{"id":40530,"date":"2019-12-16T11:02:42","date_gmt":"2019-12-16T11:02:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/kenya-national-commission-for-unesco-and-hwpl\/"},"modified":"2019-12-16T11:01:55","modified_gmt":"2019-12-16T11:01:55","slug":"kenya-national-commission-for-unesco-and-hwpl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/kenya-national-commission-for-unesco-and-hwpl\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya National Commission for UNESCO and HWPL Seek Partnership for Peace Education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The workshop was devoted to enabling educators from UNESCO-associated schools experience and practice peace value education in the field through presentation sessions on peace education materials and pilot class.<\/p>\n<p>HWPL says that peace education serves as a global platform with the aim of \u201cleaving peace as a legacy to the future generations\u201d by raising awareness of building peace from citizens and fostering a culture of peace to challenge the threat from war and violence.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Dorah Kitala, principal education officer of Ministry of Education said, \u201cPeace education textbooks and the curricula are innovative. After the demonstration, I could feel that peace education is necessary for Kenya and would work with HWPL in the future.\u201d<br \/>\nWith the need for teaching values of peace to Kenyan students, 20 educators from UNESCO associated schools signed an agreement, which says they teach the right character for those who would carry the future of the country and to disperse peace education in Kenya.<\/p>\n<p>HWPL has endorsed peace education in over 220 educational institutions globally and established a partnership with government agencies (ministry of education) to introduce peace education for students, including the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Iraq, and Guatemala. HWPL, KNATCOM and the Ministry of Education of Kenya are considering formalizing peace education activities throughout the country.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-34047 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/unnamed-35.jpg\" alt=\"1st Peace Educator Workshop for the Kenya National Commission for UNESCO (KNATCOM) in 2019\" \/><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-34046 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/unnamed_1_-10.jpg\" alt=\"Group Photo with Educators of UNESCO\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The \u201c1st Peace Educator Workshop for the Kenya National Commission for UNESCO (KNATCOM) in 2019\u201d took place in Kenya Education Management Institute on 11, December.
