{"id":40156,"date":"2019-10-12T05:54:54","date_gmt":"2019-10-12T05:54:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/second-batch-of-123-refugees-from-libya-in-rwanda\/"},"modified":"2019-10-15T10:59:42","modified_gmt":"2019-10-15T10:59:42","slug":"second-batch-of-123-refugees-from-libya-in-rwanda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/second-batch-of-123-refugees-from-libya-in-rwanda\/","title":{"rendered":"Second batch of 123 refugees from Libya in Rwanda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The123 refugees from Libya landed at Kigali International Airport on Friday midnight.<\/p>\n<p>Rwanda signed agreements to host refugees stranded in Libya on 10th September 2019 with the African Union (AU) and UNHCR.<\/p>\n<p>Rwanda made the commitment to host refugees from Libya in 2017 following revelations that thousands of people from across Africa were stranded in the country after their failure to reach Europe and subjected to slavery.<\/p>\n<p>Among the 123 refugees that arrived in Rwanda, 99 of them are men and the remaining 24 are women; about 59 are still minors. <\/p>\n<p>These refugees are coming from three different countries 106 from Eritrea, 15 from Somalia and two that come from Sudan.<\/p>\n<p>Ministry of Emergency Management (Minema), has announced on their Twitter account \u201cthese refugees will be placed in the Gashora camp in Bugesera district where the first batch was placed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As he was officially opening the YouthConneck summit Wednesday, President Paul Kagame spoke about what motivated Rwanda to host the refugees.  <\/p>\n<p>Kagame explained that these refugees have three options whereby  Europe can come and choose who they want to take,  those chasing to go back home can be facilitated in an orderly manner while the third option is allowing them to stay in Rwanda if they don\u2019t prefer any of the two options mentioned above.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey will live like our citizens, we don\u2019t give too much because we don\u2019t have too much but whatever we have, we share and we live decent lives. That is the arrangement under which this thing has been done and anybody can do it, any other country can do it.
