The State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe has told IGIHE that it is a great milestone to defeating armed groups operating in Eastern DRC. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt is good news for peace and security to DRC and the region. The fact that DRC has killed Mudacumura following the arrest of FDLR spokesperson and intelligence chief and deporting them to Rwanda proves the willingness of President Tshisekedi to nullify genocidaires and rebel groups in Eastern DRC,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
According to the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC), Mudacumura was killed along with his lieutenants during a special operation that saw an attack in the wee hours of Wednesday. <\/p>\n
It is said that Mudacumura was killed with his deputies including Col Serge, Col Soso Sixbert, and his secretary Maj Gaspard among others while more 15 fighters were arrested. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe 34th military region of North Kivu confirms the death of Sylvestre Mudacumura, the chief of FDLR, killed with his closest lieutenants by FARDC on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday in the Bwito chiefdom, Rutshuru territory,\u201d reads FARDCB tweet following the killing. <\/p>\n
Rwanda\u2019s Minister of Justice, Johnston Busingye also tweeted that Mudacumura was awaited in hell. <\/p>\n
Mudacumura, 65, is accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed between 2009 and 2010. <\/p>\n
The International Criminal Court of La Haye in Holland issued arrest warrants against him on 13th July 2012.<\/p>\n
Mudacumura took over FDLR leadership following the repatriation of his predecessor, General Paul Rwarakabije.<\/p>\n
Mudacumura served in Rwanda\u2019s military before the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. He was the deputy commander of the Presidential Guard of the Rwandan Armed Forces during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.<\/p>\n
He attended the military academy in Hamburg, Germany.<\/p>\n
Gen. Mudacumura is killed following the arrest of Major Sabimana Iraguha known as Mugisha Vainqueur, the former commander of his guarding forces in 2016. He was arrested by the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC).<\/p>\n
Mugisha was among the top leaders of FDLR sought by the judiciary for alleged war crimes committed in Busurungi of Walikale during Umoja Wetu operations.<\/p>\n
