{"id":4003,"date":"2012-11-08T03:18:25","date_gmt":"2012-11-08T03:18:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/kenya-s-uhuru-lobbying-regional-leaders\/"},"modified":"2012-11-08T03:17:35","modified_gmt":"2012-11-08T03:17:35","slug":"kenya-s-uhuru-lobbying-regional-leaders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/kenya-s-uhuru-lobbying-regional-leaders\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya&#8217;s Uhuru Lobbying Regional Leaders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{{Kenya&#8217;s Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta has started a second round of shuttle diplomacy to persuade regional leaders to take a common stand on \u2018foreign interference\u2019 in Kenya\u2019s next elections.}}<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kenyatta flew to Burundi\u2019s capital-Bujumbura, with ministers Eugene Wamalwa, Charity Ngilu, and MPs Najib Balala, Kiema Kilonzo and Musikari Kombo to meet President Pierre Nkurunziza.<\/p>\n<p>The team also furthered their negotiations of reaching a coalition agreement between The National Alliance, New Ford-Kenya, Narc and United Republican Party ahead of the elections.<\/p>\n<p>Sources at the meeting in a Bujumbura hotel said they were yet to strike a coalition deal. Mr Kombo termed the trip a serious diplomatic mission to introduce the group to other East African leaders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis mission has nothing to do with the ICC cases or the signing of a coalition agreement,\u201d Mr Kombo said, revealing that they held talks with President Nkurunziza at his official residence.<\/p>\n<p>The team will then head to Uganda to meet with President Yoweri Museveni before returning to the country.
