{"id":39694,"date":"2019-07-18T18:23:10","date_gmt":"2019-07-18T18:23:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/over-600-huye-residents-to-get-free-eye-treatment\/"},"modified":"2019-07-18T18:18:41","modified_gmt":"2019-07-18T18:18:41","slug":"over-600-huye-residents-to-get-free-eye-treatment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/over-600-huye-residents-to-get-free-eye-treatment\/","title":{"rendered":"Over 600 Huye residents to get free eye treatment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The weeklong service that started yesterday is conducted by opticians from the United States (USA) in collaboration with Come and See Rwanda (CASA-Rwanda) organization and Assembl\u00e9e de Dieu Church.<\/p>\n<p>Frank Murenzi, the Executive Director of CASA-Rwanda has said that Rwanda\u2019s vibrant external relations enabled the availability of these specialists. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe service is rooted in good relations between Khalvari and churches in Rwanda particularly Come and See Rwanda and Assembl\u00e9e de Dieu,\u201d he explained.  <\/p>\n<p> Some beneficiaries from the program at the outset revealed that it will improve their sight because they had run short of means to access treatment. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would not see alphabets well and shade tears sometimes as I read.  They have given me glasses that have improved my sight,\u201d said Jean Murekezi. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always failed to read the bible in church and I had abandoned using my phone because I couldn\u2019t see well. I am thankful for the support,\u201d said another beneficiary, Patricia Mukamusoni.  <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Rodolfo Rudy Sarmiento one of the ophthalmologists said they were motivated to offer such free treatment realizing that eye disease is on the rise around the world leading to vision impairment.  <\/p>\n<p> \u201cWe found it necessary to provide the treatment. Many Rwandans need eye treatment despite the scarcity of ophthalmologists. We observed the growing demand when we came to Rwanda last year. We chose to provide our contribution in partnership with Christian churches,\u201d he stressed. <\/p>\n<p>A total of 600 residents will attend eye test where some of them will get glasses while 60
