{"id":39437,"date":"2019-06-03T08:18:26","date_gmt":"2019-06-03T08:18:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/rotary-club-international-members-visit-nyanza\/"},"modified":"2019-06-03T08:17:47","modified_gmt":"2019-06-03T08:17:47","slug":"rotary-club-international-members-visit-nyanza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/rotary-club-international-members-visit-nyanza\/","title":{"rendered":"Rotary Club International members visit Nyanza genocide memorial in KicukiroRotary Club International members visit Nyanza genocide memorial in Kicukiro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The event held on Friday was preceded by a walk to remember from IPRC Kicukiro to the memorial. <\/p>\n<p>After laying wreaths and honoring genocide victims laid at the memorial, they received explanations on history of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. <\/p>\n<p>The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for the Fight Against Genocide (CNLG) who was the guest of honor took them through sufferings Tutsi endured during the preparation of genocide since 1559 until it was executed in 1994 taking lives of more than one million Tutsi.  <\/p>\n<p>He said the battle of bullets ended and the remaining one is telling the truth of what happened to pacify those who still undermine the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.   <\/p>\n<p>Talking to IGIHE, the Deputy Governor of Rotary Club District 9150, Jeannette Rugera said that the visit is part of their annual agenda to join the rest of Rwandans during commemoration period. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have come to commemorate the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi for the 25th time which Rotary does annually. We have visited Nyanza memorial because it holds unique history though we have been previously visiting Kigali Genocide Memorial,\u201d she noted. <\/p>\n<p>Present were the youth aged between 18 and 30  from  Rotaract in secondary schools and universities along with young people aged between 12 and 18 known as Interact  to learn more about history of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. <\/p>\n<p>Rotary International is a global service organization whose purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian service and to advance goodwill and peace around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Rotary members strive for a shared responsibility to take action on the world\u2019s most persistent issues. It has over 35,000 clubs that work together to, promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, save mothers and children, support education, and grow local
