{"id":39001,"date":"2019-03-21T08:30:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-21T08:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/rwandans-in-belgium-celebrate-international-women\/"},"modified":"2019-03-21T09:18:55","modified_gmt":"2019-03-21T09:18:55","slug":"rwandans-in-belgium-celebrate-international-women","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/rwandans-in-belgium-celebrate-international-women\/","title":{"rendered":"Rwandans in Belgium celebrate International Women\u2019s Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The day is usually celebrated on 8th March every year at the international level.<br \/>\nThe event was organized by gender equality commission of Rwanda\u2019s diaspora in Belgium in partnership with Rwanda\u2019s embassy in the country. <\/p>\n<p>The senior advisor to Rwanda\u2019s ambassador in Belgium, Bosco Ntibitura told IGIHE that the event is \u2018a platform fostering discussions on valuing the power and knowledge of women abroad\u2019. <\/p>\n<p>Present at the event was panelists including Marie Arena, Belgian native coordinating Women&#8217;s Rights and Gender Equality commission at European Union parliament.   <\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot needs to do here in Europe because areas where gender equality is not respected still exist,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<p>Marie Pierre Nyatanyi who is among founders of a non-profit organization (Djaili Mbock asbl) based in Belgium and the writer of \u201cPlurielles, Femmes de la diaspora africaine\u201d; Dr Uwizeyimana Emeline, a researcher and writer of a book dubbed \u201cLe micro-cr\u00e9dit \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9preuve des in\u00e9galit\u00e9s de genre\u201d; and Olivia Ingabire, a Belgium based entrepreneur exhibiting Made in Rwanda products were also among panelists. <\/p>\n<p>Rwandans attending the event lauded President Paul Kagame for his role model with non-discriminatory leadership giving women representation in all government positions. <\/p>\n<p>The celebration was characterized by traditional dances and sharing dinner.  <\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-28505 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/49-49-0f4ae.jpg\" alt=\"Rwandans living in Belgium have been joined by friends to celebrate International Women\u2019s Day in an elegant ceremony that took place in Bruxelles\" \/><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-28508 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/29-117-1b6f1.jpg\" alt=\"Marie Pierre Nyatanyi, the writer of \u201cPlurielles, Femmes de la diaspora africaine\u201d;
