{"id":38553,"date":"2018-11-23T15:30:00","date_gmt":"2018-11-23T15:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/police-seize-boat-carrying-398-bales-of-second\/"},"modified":"2018-11-25T12:12:26","modified_gmt":"2018-11-25T12:12:26","slug":"police-seize-boat-carrying-398-bales-of-second","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/police-seize-boat-carrying-398-bales-of-second\/","title":{"rendered":"Police seize boat carrying 398 bales of second-hand garments in Rutsiro District"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The intercepted merchandise smuggled include 319 bales of used shoes and 50 bales of secondhand clothes locally known as caguwa.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Elias Mwesigye, the Commanding Officer (CO) for the Rwanda National Police (RNP) Marine Unit, said the merchandise was seized from five Congolese nationals, who were also taken into custody.<\/p>\n<p>Those who were trying to smuggle it include Byadunia Barume, Mulikuza Busani Nikora, Bahati Bahavu Christian, Kameme Elie, and Mungoakonkwa Amini Bosco.<\/p>\n<p>ACP Mwesigye said the boat was seized thanks to a tip-off from members of the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had earlier in the day received information about a boat that would be heading to Karongi District from Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo, through Lake Kivu\u201d, ACP Mwesigye said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarine officers were deployed and the boat loaded with the merchandise was intercepted at about 9 pm, as it approached Nyamunini Island.
