{"id":38373,"date":"2018-10-20T13:17:17","date_gmt":"2018-10-20T13:17:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/crime-grew-by-10-7-last-judicial-year\/"},"modified":"2018-10-20T13:17:14","modified_gmt":"2018-10-20T13:17:14","slug":"crime-grew-by-10-7-last-judicial-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/crime-grew-by-10-7-last-judicial-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Crime grew by 10.7% last judicial year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Criminal cases increased most, occupying 65% of all registered court cases.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Rugege noted that pending cases are 24,783 and suggested that in order to address the challenge of backlog, minor crimes may be resolved by means of imposing fines or mutual agreements between the two parties. <\/p>\n<p>He reported that courts were able to deal with 73,682 cases while in 2016\/2017 they had dealt with   67 992 cases.<\/p>\n<p>As for the integrity of cases adjudicated in Rwanda, Rwanda Governance Board revealed in the fifth Rwanda Governance Scorecard that citizens\u2019 trust in courts stands at 85.8 % up from  78.3 in 2016\/2017 while the level of trust in the turn-around time, from when a case is reported to when a judgment is read, improved from 77.7% to 89.7 %.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Crimes are on the rise in the country giving courts more work to adjudicate, the Chief Justice Prof. Sam Rugege has revealed.
