Other police officials also confirmed the investigation to the Reuters news agency.<\/p>\n<p>Interpol \u2014 headquartered in Lyon, France \u2014 is an international organization facilitating police cooperation across borders. Meng\u2019s wife reported her husband\u2019s disappearance to French authorities because she has been living in France with their children, Europe 1 reported.<\/p>\n<p>A spokeswoman for France\u2019s Interior Ministry, which oversees the national police force, did not immediately respond to a request for independent confirmation. Neither did a spokeswoman for the Lyon prosecutor, which oversees investigations in the region.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Interpol said only that the disappearance is a \u201cmatter for the relevant authorities in both France and China\u201d and declined to elaborate further.<\/p>\n<p>A vice minister of public security in China, he previously served as vice chairman of the national narcotics control commission and director of the National Counter-Terrorism Office for China. <\/p>\n<p>Meng, 64, was named president of Interpol in November 2016, and his term is slated to end in 2020.
