{"id":38271,"date":"2018-10-03T19:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-10-03T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/east-province-farmers-encouraged-to-grow-crops-on\/"},"modified":"2018-10-03T20:58:21","modified_gmt":"2018-10-03T20:58:21","slug":"east-province-farmers-encouraged-to-grow-crops-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/east-province-farmers-encouraged-to-grow-crops-on\/","title":{"rendered":"East Province Farmers encouraged to grow crops on 30% of their grazing land"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The decision was taken during a meeting that brought together the Eastern Province officials and officials from the Rwanda Land Management and Use Authority with leaders from all districts in the province.<\/p>\n<p>The Governor of the Eastern Province, Fred Mufulukye said the decision was taken after it was found that some farmers would grow different crops on grazing land in a disorganized manner.<\/p>\n<p>Mufulukye said, \u201cSome farmers would grow different crops on the land reserved for grazing. They grew beans, potatoes, maizes, among other crops in a way that could not help them get enough produce.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe decided to help our citizens so that those who decide to grow crops on the grazing land could get a better harvest for the market not only for subsistence,\u2019\u2019 he added. <\/p>\n<p>According to Mufulukye, \u201cpreviously livestock farmers were not allowed to grow any crops on grazing land except hybrid grass.
