She also earns $11,000 with the victory.<\/p>\n<p>Nyirarukundo was followed by Kenyan Joan Kigen who finished second, stopping the clock at 2:31.26, while Emebet Anteneh of Ethiopia finished in third with a time of 2:43.24 who joined her on the podium.<\/p>\n<p>While Nyirarukundo is also a newbie when it comes to marathons, that didn\u2019t stop her from setting a course record.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis marathon is my first time running a marathon,\u201d Nyirarukundo said, as quoted by globalnews.ca, adding she was very pleased with her time<br \/>\nIn men category, Kenya\u2019s Ezekiel Mutai, 25, came first and also earned  $11,000 in prize money as Nyirarukundo.<\/p>\n<p>In the men top three who mounted to the podium came Wycliffe Biwott of Kenya who finished second with a time of 2:15.28 and Jean-Marie Vianney Uwajeneza of Rwanda in 2:15.28.<\/p>\n<p>In the half marathon, the winners were Alexis Lavoie-Gilbert of Quebec City (1:09:25), and Anne-Marie Comeau of St-Ferr\u00e9ol-les-neiges (1:14:46).<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-27281 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/rwandan_nyirarukundo_reaches_the_finish_line.jpg\" alt=\"Rwandan athlete Salome Nyirarukundo reaches the finish line\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rwandan athlete Salome Nyirarukundo won the women&#8217;s race of the 28th edition of Montreal Marathon with a time of 2:28:02.
