{"id":38038,"date":"2018-08-20T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-08-20T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/community-health-workers-to-treat-ear-diseases\/"},"modified":"2018-08-20T13:24:06","modified_gmt":"2018-08-20T13:24:06","slug":"community-health-workers-to-treat-ear-diseases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/community-health-workers-to-treat-ear-diseases\/","title":{"rendered":"Community health workers to treat ear diseases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Diane Gashumba, the Minister for Health, said the training will be offered in collaboration with Starkey Hearing Foundation starting in the next two months.<\/p>\n<p>The move was revealed in Kigali Friday after the exercise in which Starkey Hearing Foundation had treated 378 people with hearing problems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are planning to have this foundation train health workers to take these services to the village level, and this is not hard to do,\u201d said Minister Gashumba.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce that training is offered, we shall be assured that all Rwandans with auditory impairments will have treatment at ease.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> Dr Gashumba said the hearing problems are alarming in Rwanda and worldwide, calling for effective measures.<\/p>\n<p>The 2012 census indicated that 466,453 Rwandans had disabilities with 8% among them having hearing impairments.<\/p>\n<p>World Health Organisation (WHO) reports 466 million people with hearing impairments in 2018;
