{"id":37073,"date":"2018-03-07T14:10:00","date_gmt":"2018-03-07T14:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/clampdown-on-shanty-churches-continues-139-closed\/"},"modified":"2018-03-07T15:13:53","modified_gmt":"2018-03-07T15:13:53","slug":"clampdown-on-shanty-churches-continues-139-closed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/clampdown-on-shanty-churches-continues-139-closed\/","title":{"rendered":"Clampdown on shanty churches continues: 139 closed in Rwamagana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The decision was taken in the meeting that brought together church leaders and In Rwamagana District officials on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>In the meeting, both parties agreed to end disorder where some churches operate from sub-standard places.<\/p>\n<p>The monitoring which was conducted in ten sectors on Tuesday saw 139 among 527 churches in the whole district closed.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to IGIHE, Rwamagana District mayor, Radjab Mbonyumuvunyi said that they had agreed with owners of the churches about the move.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cOn Monday we had a meeting with religious leaders and we agreed that we should end disorder in the district. A team including heads of religions is conducting the inspection and those found lacking some requirements are being closed down. Among these closed include some which look like grass-thatched houses and others are using convasss sheets,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>He urged those with Rwanda Governance Board licenses to buy plots and construct standard churches.<\/p>\n<p>Among the affected churches are those that have been operating from residential houses, bars, commercial houses and temporary shelters among others. The monitoring team also closed those with no parking space and toilets.<\/p>\n<p>The monitoring found 75 churches without operating licenses.<\/p>\n<p>The exercise to close down sub-standard churches started in Kigali by closing down 724 churches.
