{"id":37068,"date":"2018-03-06T16:46:14","date_gmt":"2018-03-06T16:46:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/imbuto-foundation-partners-with-mount-kenya\/"},"modified":"2018-03-06T16:45:43","modified_gmt":"2018-03-06T16:45:43","slug":"imbuto-foundation-partners-with-mount-kenya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/imbuto-foundation-partners-with-mount-kenya\/","title":{"rendered":"Imbuto Foundation partners with Mount Kenya University to support disadvantaged secondary school students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Through this partnership, Mount Kenya University contributed USD 150,000, which will be disbursed in five (5) annual installments of USD 30,000, to support the education of 100 vulnerable students in secondary schools through the Imbuto Foundation\u2019s \u201cEdified Generation\u201d scholarships programme. In addition, the university will provide five (5) scholarships to brilliant girls \u2013 also beneficiaries of Imbuto Foundation, every year for the next 5 years. In an effort to promote East African integration, three of those scholarships will be used in the Mount Kenya University &#8211; Kigali campus, while the remaining two scholarships will be attained at the main campus in Nairobi.<br \/>\nPresent at the signing ceremony was Director General Sandrine Umutoni, representing Imbuto Foundation and Prof Simon Gicharu, representing Mount Kenya University.<\/p>\n<p>Also present were; the Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs in Kicukiro district, Mr Bayingana Emmanuel; the Vice-Chancellor Designate, Prof Evans Kerosi and Dr John Nyiligira, the Deputy Vice Chancelor in Charge of Administration, Planning and Institutional Advancement at the university, among other officials.<br \/>\nThe ceremony also brought together members of the university staff and representatives of the students in the boardroom of the university\u2019s campus located in Kicukiro.<\/p>\n<p>Alike to this initiative is The \u201cEdified Generation\u201d scholarships programme initiated by Imbuto Foundation in 2003 with an objective of financially supporting secondary school students from economically vulnerable backgrounds in their pursuit of education.<br \/>\nBeneficiaries of this programme receive assistance of up to $300 per year, to help pay for their living costs, health insurance and their school supplies.
