{"id":36719,"date":"2018-01-07T16:19:11","date_gmt":"2018-01-07T16:19:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/kagame-named-african-person-of-the-year-2017\/"},"modified":"2018-01-10T16:40:43","modified_gmt":"2018-01-10T16:40:43","slug":"kagame-named-african-person-of-the-year-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/kagame-named-african-person-of-the-year-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Kagame named African person of the Year 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to the magazine, Kagame won as an African whose activities, policies and actions have contributed to \u2018creating jobs and wealth creation; promotion, defense and delivering of democratic values; and the promotion of Africa\u2019s image globally.<\/p>\n<p>The African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year Awards committee was unveiling the winners for different categories in the just concluded polls.<\/p>\n<p>The winners who will be decorated on the 24th February 2018 in Johannesburg, South Africa, were unveiled by the Publisher of the Magazine Dr. Ken Giami, at the UK Head Office of the group, after the awards committee working with the editorial team concluded the collation of both online and offline votes and submissions from over one million subscribers and followership base of the publication.<\/p>\n<p>{{Below are the winners:}}<\/p>\n<p>{{African of the Year 2017:}}<\/p>\n<p>H.E. Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda \u2013 Winner<\/p>\n<p>{{African Female Leader of the Year 2017:}}<\/p>\n<p>1. Bethlehem Tilahum Alemu, Founder soleRebels, Ethiopia \u2013 Co-Winner<\/p>\n<p>2. Ms. Suzan Mashibe, Executive Director, Tanjet Aviation, Tanzania \u2013 Co-Winner<\/p>\n<p>{{ALM Person of the Year 2017-Educational Development}}<\/p>\n<p>{Strive Masayiwa, Founder Econet, Zimbabwe \u2013 Winner}<\/p>\n<p>{{ALM Person of the Year 2017 \u2013 Employment Generation}}<\/p>\n<p>{Kwame Nana Bediako, President, Founder &#038; CEO, Petronia Ghana \u2013 Winner<br \/>\n}<\/p>\n<p>{{ALM Person of the Year 2017 \u2013 Political Leadership}}<\/p>\n<p>{Marc Ravalomanana, Former President of Madagascar \u2013 Winner}<\/p>\n<p>{{ALM Person of the Year 2017 \u2013 Philanthropy &#038; Charitable Contributions to Society}}<\/p>\n<p>{Manu Chandaria, Chairman, Comcraft Group, Kenya \u2013 Winner}<\/p>\n<p>{{ALM Young Person of the Year 2017}}<\/p>\n<p>{Joel Macharia, Founder \/ CEO, Abacus Kenya- Winner}<\/p>\n<p>According to the magazine, the total online votes cast by Africans from all around the world jumped to 288,958 from 85,000 the previous year and offline submissions increased by over 400%.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the winners, a special commendation citation shall be presented to the most distinguished runners up which includes Linah Mohohlo, Governor, Bank of Botwana; Fred Swaniker, Founder, African Leadership Academy, South Africa &#038; African Leadership University, Mauritius;  and  Tony Elumelu, Chairman, Heirs Holdings Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The Publisher of the Magazine, Ken Giami, reiterated the group\u2019s position that all nominees in the various categories are all winners, given their individual contributions to the continent\u2019s development.<\/p>\n<p>In his words, \u201cto be chosen out of the over 1.2 billion people on the continent, speaks volumes.\u201d He further stated that \u201cthe nominees have elevated and redefined benchmarks of service to the humanity on the continent. They are all true lovers of Africa, contributing passionately, sometimes imperfectly, but all determined to impacting society, making Africa a better place for its people.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year which is in its 6th run, is an annual award reserved for distinguished Africans, who are considered to have blazed the trail in the year under review.<\/p>\n<p>A shortlist of nominees are selected from results gathered via a call for nomination \u2013 traditionally promoted via a paid online and offline campaigns across the continent, Europe, and the Americas.
