{"id":36310,"date":"2017-11-20T10:19:42","date_gmt":"2017-11-20T10:19:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/varsity-student-representatives-advocate-for\/"},"modified":"2017-11-22T15:03:35","modified_gmt":"2017-11-22T15:03:35","slug":"varsity-student-representatives-advocate-for","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/varsity-student-representatives-advocate-for\/","title":{"rendered":"Varsity student representatives advocate for better living allowance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At different times, university students have asked for the increase of living allowance from Rwf25,000 per month. <\/p>\n<p>In the general meeting students\u2019 representatives from different colleges in Rwanda, said that students could not perform well in class when they lack some basic needs like food, a problem which affects the quality of education. <\/p>\n<p>According to Ndayisaba, students\u2019 representatives intend to approach banks and request them to increase their living allowances, provided as  loans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore 2015, they used to provide students with internship fee; this usually helped them during the internship and research period, but after its removal, it affected the quality of education,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p> \u201cWe are thinking to approach Rwanda Development Bank (BRD) so that they increase living allowances in form of loans to enable students get quality education,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Ndayisaba is optimistic that their voices will be heard and the government raise the money to Rwf60,000.<\/p>\n<p>Pascal Gatabazi, a students\u2019 representative in Tumba College of Technology said \u201cThe quality of education cannot be attained when students are hungry, don\u2019t have access to internship of international standards and don\u2019t have enough professional lecturers.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Commenting on students\u2019 concerns, the Director General of Science, Research and Technology in the Ministry of Education, Dr. Marie Christine Gasingirwa urged students to raise the issue so that institutions in charge could sit and assess where to get resources.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is good to raise it.When the issue is raised we discuss about it and sort out priorities and resources.
